video describing PIPA and SOPA. and not to sounds like a broken record, but Vimeo the site this video comes from is one of the high risk sites from decommission should these bills pass.
As a Canadian, it’s easy for me to simply bypass these posts and ignore them. Of course, wikipedia isn’t working for me today either (well, it is on my mobile device, but not laptop).
It’s also easy for me to say “well, Canada is better than the USA” but it’s not true. There are so many policies passed that disrespect the privacy of others. (Like the policy that says women must unveil their faces when attending their citizenship event…)
One thing I’m curious about is how Canadian and other non-American users will be effected by these laws. Of course, many of my favourite Tumblroos will disappear, but will the sites disappear also? Will my privacy be at risk also?
I have no idea.

Joel Plaskkett - You’re Mine
I love Joel Plaskett. For serious. This new project of his too is pure awesome so far. The band is recording a new song each week and then releasing them each Tuesday
for… six weeks I think (?)from Jan 10-March 13. This is the first tune from the studios.
This is amazing. Seriously.
The fact that he is producing and releasing the song, week by week is wonderful. They were talking about it on CBC Radio 2 and how this is how it used to be.
I’m so excited. He’s a brilliant man.

Died.
This is actually really offensive and not for “religious” reasons.
I’ve seen this on my dashboard numerous times and this time, I can’t just scroll past.
Ontario promotes eating local vegetables and even has a catchy jingle to go along with it. Why? Because wonderful Canadian/Ontarian farmers work hard to provide you with fresh food. Not.
The truth?
Many impoverished Mexican men, with wives and families, migrate to Leamington, Ontario to find work. These men aren’t able to find work so they spend 8 months of the year here. Although this sounds great, the work conditions are very poor and workers often encounter experiences that are hazardous to their health, like spraying pesticides with absolutely no protective gear. Their living conditions consist of run down houses and sometimes 8 men crammed into one room. Along with this, the pay is low and the work isn’t unionized. If the men attempt to speak up about injustices, they know they will be out of work shortly and are easily replaceable. The Mexican Consulate will only accept married men because they want to make sure the workers will return when the 8 months are over.
You may be thinking, well why doesn’t Canada just use local workers? Because they are too expensive to employ. Or, why do they continue to return to the poor conditions? Because they have no work in Mexico and have families to provide for.
tl;dr: Canada abuses migrant workers from Mexico to farm vegetables. They use them for cheap wages and don’t provide safe work conditions.
There’s a good documentary about it all called El Contrato.
What’s Up With “Theatre” and “Theater”?
I’m a supporter of British-English.
(Only because Canada uses it too.)

Canadian Gov.'t Dissolves Every Same-Sex Marriage of US Citizens
Thousands of Americans have gone to Canada over the past few years to get married. As of today, their marriages are nullified, thanks to conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s new policy.
Fuck.
canada what the fuck I thought we were bros
AJDHGAJSGHDAS WTF PEOPLE
I REALLY REALLY REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND
Why the hell is same sex marrige such a big deal geeeeeeeeez let people marry who they want
Why do people go out of their way to fuck up peoples lives
WHAT exactly does same sex marriage DO to ruin their pathetic little lives, two people who love eachother get married THAT’S IT it in no way effecst anyone but those two people who just love eachother and want to be married
I’m normally so proud of my country.
What the fuck, Canada?
CANADA WHY
WTF CANADA?!
Dear Stephen Harper, you suck. Go away.
:(
“The Canadian government has assured LGBT couples (even non-Canadian residents) that their marriages are not in jeopardy.”
I like what the amazing Mr. George Takei had to say on the subject though:
“But to the larger point: LGBT people have the question of their rights in the news (and subject to media hype or misinformation) because they are always at risk. We are not “overreacting” to these legal developments that call our rights into question—we are being vigilant. The very fact that “legal loopholes” and “rogue lawyers” can place our rights at stake means that we haven’t come as far as we need to, even in Canada. Indeed, the very fact that we must research whether LGBT marriages are still intact, or receive reassurances from the government that it is, proves this. When was the last time straight couples had to go check?”
Thankfully, this isn’t actually true - I got super pissed off and ashamed of my home country when I read this yesterday, but further research (like this) proved that it is not going to happen and the Canadian government are taking steps to make sure it doesn’t. Phew.
The above isn’t true
Y’all need to read up on shit more before you freak out. Like the person above me said, 90% of what’s written here isn’t true.
What the Canadian government is saying, is that since your country doesn’t acknowledge same-sex marriage, it’s not viewed as valid. This has nothing to the with the government dissolving it. This has to do with your country. Canada has no control over the laws of other countries.
The Canadian government is working to make sure that even if you aren’t residents of Canada, your marriage will still be valid. This is something that wasn’t in existence before but hopefully will be.
So chill out.

Male or Female or Canadian
…Did this person seriously take a photograph of a computer screen?
Are there still people out there who are unfamiliar with the Print Screen function?
Perhaps they thought that photographic evidence would look more legitimate, given that it’s trivial to edit a screenshot.
Additionally, the built-in Windows screenshot function doesn’t capture the mouse pointer, and also occasionally fails to capture certain other screen elements (such as various movie-codec windows, and form controls that trigger actions based on keypresses).
….Why do people think we’re a joke?
WHY ARE WE ALIENS?
