She’s so tired! All of this Bill 16 has us pretty tuckered out.
BILL 16 WENT FOR A SECOND READING TODAY AND PASSED!!
Bill 16 is to revoke the Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) and Pit Bull Ban in Ontario.
For almost 8 years, Pit Bulls have been outlawed in Ontario. All dogs born within 6 months of the BSL passing were allowed within the province. All existing dogs needed to be spayed and neutered. Breeding was outlawed and all Pit Bulls were required to have a muzzle when out in pubic.
As many of you know, I am an owner of a Pit Bull. Kasey is only half Pit Bull, but she is still required to follow the strict law. She actually was only a little under a year when the BSL passed.
Today, Bill 16 went to Queen’s Park for a second vote and passed this round. The bill isn’t 100% approved and requires more evaluation. This is still a huge step forward for Pit Bulls and their owners!
As a Pit Bull owner, I’ve seen the struggle and stigma that follows this breed. Since she is a mixed breed, people’s reactions change drastically when they discover that she is half Pit Bull. When they experience how gentle she is, their response is that this is only because she is also half Chocolate Lab. It always disgusts me. Hopefully Bill 16 is a step forward to reconciling the relationships with Pit Bulls.
Also, while I’m writing this, Kasey is curled up on the couch and fast asleep. She’s also snoring. Anyone who says Pit Bulls can’t be precious and sweet haven’t met this one.
