I love that my Dad always cried when Shadow plods up over the hill and says, “Peter. My boy.”
When we moved up to WA, right after this film was released, he made sure he bought us a golden retriever right away. I swear, every time he held her, there were those tears from the finale of this film in his eyes.
When she died, I grieved for her. But I grieved for what it meant to him more, to lose her. Whenever he caught her in his arms, you could almost see that last scene of Peter catching Shadow play out before you, with that same joy of a boy whose favorite thing in the world is being able to embrace his dog.
I can’t wait for him to have that for his own again. Lilo and Penny are great, but they’re not his. He is a boy who needs his own dog.
This scene always made me cry. This movie was always my favourite.
To be honest, I don’t know what I’d do without Kasey. My sister made a comment about how about 5 minutes before I walked in the door from school, Kasey started running around. There was no sign of me in front of the house. Kasey started getting even more excited and that’s when my sister noticed me at the mailbox across the street.
I don’t know what it is about this dog, but I love her to bits. Maybe it’s the greetings and goodbyes I get. My sister also recently told me that Kasey barks after I leave in the morning and runs to the back door. There’s a path behind our house that leads to the bus station. Apparently Kasey watches me walk to and from the bus stop every day.
Recently, friends have been faced with tough situations surrounding their dogs We had a scare in November. I don’t want to live in fear, so I’ll just embrace the cuddles and love her, even when she hogs the whole bed.

I don’t think couples are the future. You need more than that…You need backup. The way I saw it, Will and I both had backup now. It’s like that thing he told me Jon Bon Jovi said, ‘No man is an island.’
- About a Boy (2002)
Guess what’s on TV!
This is my absolute favourite movie. I’ve seen this more times than I can count.

I believe Jack Nicholson is amazing in almost any role he does.

I ditched the movies (for now) for Mystery Men.
This is a forgotten gem.
Fun fact? I had my first kiss during this movie.
